HEROES IV · COMPLETE · PŮVODNÍ PRAVIDLA / ORIGINAL RULES · 147 ENTRIES
Spell and summoning catalogue · Heroes IV
All 147 entries in the reference inventory with original icons, costs, requirements, formulas, restrictions and practical tactics. Five magic schools are accompanied by five Demon summons granted by combined skills.
32 Life, 31 Nature, 27 Chaos, 25 Death and 27 Order spells, plus 5 Demon summons. With Town Gate’s dual use verified, there are 137 combat-only, 4 adventure-only and 6 dual-use entries. Jaskinia Behemota is the base numerical inventory; identified conflicts and mod changes are not merged into a supposedly universal rule.

Base damage
45 + 4 × L
Rules, restrictions and interactions
Base damage is 45 + 4 × L, where L is the casting hero’s level. Apply Spirituality and other relevant modifiers afterward. Death alignment matters: a Demon need not be Undead to belong to that alignment.
Practical use
Remove a key Death target before its action. Against several such stacks, compare Holy Shout; use a different attack against an enemy hero.

Rules, restrictions and interactions
Base restoration is 30 + 3 × L HP before Spirituality and other modifiers. Ordinary healing does not recreate dead creatures. Undead, Elementals and mechanical constructs are ineligible. Adventure use of healing magic requires an eligible wounded hero.
Practical use
Cheaply save a wounded hero or an expensive surviving creature. If Poison or Plague must be removed, compare Heal.

Rules, restrictions and interactions
It does not target Undead and opposes Curse. The creature’s damage range remains the basis; the spell adds neither another attack nor automatic Defense bypass.

Rules, restrictions and interactions
The hero must be at an eligible coastal position. The reference inventory uses the player’s nearest empty ship; occupied vessels are not available stock. Do not infer automatic ship creation from other games.
Practical use
Before an expedition, check that an empty ship exists and relocating it will not cut off another route. The spell does not replace a valid embarkation point.

Rules, restrictions and interactions
Restoration starts at 50 + 5 × L before Spirituality and other modifiers. It does not return dead stack members. The target must meet living-creature eligibility; ordinary healing excludes Undead, Elementals and constructs.
Practical use
Against ongoing damage, include the value of removing the affliction. If little HP is missing and neither effect is present, cheaper Bind Wound may suffice.

Rules, restrictions and interactions

The reference inventory gives an area of 20 squares. Crossing costs walking troops additional time rather than direct HP damage. The old manual generally describes caster-dependent size; that wording is not treated as another simultaneous multiplier.
Practical use
Delay access to friendly shooters while leaving your own safe route. Against flying or teleporting enemies, consider whether they need to cross the restriction at all.

Ranged Attack
+25 %
Ordinary shooting penalties
Distance, obstacles and walls removed
Rules, restrictions and interactions
Ranged Attack gains 25%, and ordinary distance, obstacle and wall shooting penalties are removed. It neither replenishes ammunition nor automatically increases melee offense.
Practical use
Prepare several safe volleys by multiple shooters. If the others can barely shoot or cannot shoot at all, compare single-target Precision.

Ranged Defense
+50 %
Rules, restrictions and interactions
Ranged Defense gains 50% with applicable rounding. Melee Defense does not automatically change, and a 50% stat increase does not directly halve every incoming hit.
Practical use
Use it before fire against several friendly recipients. Against a mostly melee army, compare another defensive buff.

It covers both sides and beneficial as well as harmful effects. It is not friendly-only cleansing: it can clear enemy debuffs and friendly buffs too. Special non-removable effects retain their own rules.
Practical use
Compare the full set of removed effects. To cleanse allies while preserving buffs, consider Mass Exorcism.

Combat and adventure
Rules, restrictions and interactions
The original English name is Town Gate. The nearest eligible unblocked town is used rather than unrestricted selection of any town. The community inventory confirms adventure and combat use. Equilibris changes its level and combat eligibility, so those rules are not attributed to the original version.
Practical use
Before battle, verify which nearest destination would actually receive you. Keep the needed town available and do not plan on freely choosing a more distant front.

Combat
Rules, restrictions and interactions
This is battlefield relocation rather than adventure travel. Target and empty-destination eligibility and the rules version still apply; mod changes to visibility are not automatically original restrictions.
Practical use
Save a threatened hero or open another attacking direction. Before confirming, check whether the relocated target gets the needed following action in time.

Base damage
110 + 11 × L
Rules, restrictions and interactions
Reference base damage is 110 + 11 × L before Wizardry and other modifiers. Eligibility depends on actual summoning; an ordinarily recruited creature of the same type is not automatically a summon. It is not general area damage against every enemy.
Practical use
Remove a valuable summon and compare its current health with expected damage. A weaker stack remainder may require only a cheaper attack.

Combat
Rules, restrictions and interactions
It does not automatically remove melee attacks or every other ability. Targeting and magic resistance remain important; an affected shooter can still try to approach or use another available action.
Practical use
Restrict the main enemy volley source from a safe distance. Against armies relying on other spells or melee, compare the actual benefit.

Speed and combat movement
−50 %
Rules, restrictions and interactions
The inventory gives a 50% reduction with applicable downward rounding. Evaluate both combat reach and the new action order; this is not adventure-map Mire. Corresponding opposite acceleration can change the effect.
Practical use
Create space for a ranged army against several attackers. Check which enemies can still reach heroes or use teleportation.

Maximum duration without waking
3 rounds
Rules, restrictions and interactions
Damage ends the effect. The inventory describes a melee victim waking and answering after receiving the hit; do not assume permanent retaliation prevention. Undead, Elementals and constructs are excluded.
Practical use
Temporarily remove a dangerous stack and avoid accidentally waking it with area magic. Plan the eventual hit around possible retaliation.

Rules, restrictions and interactions
It lasts until the attack rather than an arbitrary number of following rounds. It is a mind effect with associated restrictions. Nearby positions determine which side receives the blow.
Practical use

Base image HP budget
80 + 8 × L
Illusion mana
0
Rules, restrictions and interactions
Base budget is 80 + 8 × L HP before Wizardry and other bonuses. Image count and injuries depend on that creature type’s HP; the inventory preserves the budget remainder. Heroes cannot be copied. Illusions have no mana; creating the same type again can reinforce the existing image instead of a new independent stack.
Practical use
Use the larger budget for a valuable creature type. Compare actual HP created and image resilience; the enemy can remove an illusion with appropriate dispelling.

Use
Combat
Control duration
3 rounds
Rules, restrictions and interactions
During control, the inventory treats the stack as friendly and permits friendly modifiers and buffs. Your troops can also attack it, in which case it may retaliate. Mind protection and other target eligibility still matter.
Practical use
Gain actions from an important enemy stack and plan its position after control expires. Do not invest buffs without considering its return to the opponent.

Rules, restrictions and interactions
You cannot guarantee a chosen recipient for the transferred buffs. This is not general cleansing of every friendly curse; it concerns beneficial enchantment transfer and eligible recipients.
Practical use
Use it against a heavily buffed army when stripping support is already decisive. For one important enchantment, compare cheaper Steal Enchantment.

Return limit
Protected target’s HP
Rules, restrictions and interactions
The target’s HP constrain returned damage; excess overkill does not create unlimited reflection. Attacker magic immunity can prevent the return. The original hit still damages the defender, so the mirror does not simply cancel the attack.
Practical use
Protect a durable stack the opponent is likely to attack. Calculate friendly survival and do not rely on an immune attacker for guaranteed returned damage.

Rules, restrictions and interactions
L is hero level rather than magic mastery. The reference base without bonuses is floor((125 + 12 × L) / 5); divisor 5 is one creature’s experience value, not HP or recruitment cost. Meditation and other relevant bonuses can increase the result. Summoned creatures disappear after the battle; this differs from permanent recruitment through the Summoning skill. The spell requires at least Basic Nature Magic and Basic Demonology. It is granted by combined skills and does not use the ordinary cost of other spells at its level.

L is the casting hero’s level; floor(x) rounds downward to a whole number. Linear formulas are reference bases before applicable spell-strength skills, equipment, class and resistance. These are not four effect tiers imported from Heroes III. Older English inventories can incorporate different starting states and bonuses; their numbers are not added to these bases.
Levels 1–5 ordinarily require Basic, Advanced, Expert, Master and Grandmaster of the relevant school. Ordinary base mana costs are 2, 3, 5, 8 and 12. Mass versions are distinct spells. Demon summons require matching Nature Magic and Demonology tiers and cost 5, 8, 12, 18 and 24.
The hero participates directly in battle. Casting uses the hero’s action, making range, spell-specific line of sight and caster safety important. Speed affects order while combat movement determines reach. Melee and ranged stats are separate; a Defense change is not the same percentage change in final damage.
Heroes have a base reserve of 10 mana. Magic support skills increase capacity and recovery; ordinary base recovery is 1 per day. Guilds and other objects replenish mana under their own rules. Spellcasting creatures use their own reserve and creature-count scaling rather than automatically inheriting hero formulas.
Nature and Demon combat summons calculate base counts from a budget divided by creature experience value. Death raising and Order illusions use HP. Those divisors must not be confused. Summoned and temporarily raised stacks disappear after battle; daily Summoning and post-battle Necromancy are different army-acquisition mechanics.
Ordinary buffs and curses generally last until combat ends or removal. Control effects and other exceptions have their own times in individual entries. Areas and distances from the original manual retain its game-yard units rather than automatically becoming adventure-map-square counts.
Original Armageddon has nominal cost 12, but a documented bug spends no mana. Equilibris and Enhancement Mod change some costs, levels and effects. Unverified exact Spell Shackle, Mass Weakness and Hand of Death calculations and an additional Unholy Song interpretation are explicitly identified on their cards.
